Many local people know the Daisy Hill Conservation Park is just 25km out of Brisbane, and a free way of spending time in the bush and seeing koalas in their natural habitat. However just down the road there is a Buddhist temple on neighbouring bushland, which backs onto the Daisy Hill conservation park and is home to peace-loving wildlife .
Popular at Chinese New Year and Buddha’s Birthday, the temple welcomes the public every day of the year, Tuesday through to Sunday, for tours, meditation and prayer, including mediation retreats. A surprise for me was when I stepped away from the temple and gardens, into the vast grounds surrounding the property, for a spot of kangaroo-watching.
Whether you meditate or not, the area is an ideal way to step away from people, things and the constant buzz of white noise, to quietly watch, learn and contemplate our natural and constructed world.
