Ahh the Melon Fest our bi-annual festival that makes our town famous all over the country and reportedly the world. Every second year in February our little town comes alive with the spirit of the watermelon. Our town becomes inundated with festival goers that flock to the area to get amongst the melon skiing, throwing, racing, pip spitting, markets, rodeo and loads more. The week long festivals highlights often start with either the rodeo or the club hotels beach party. Either one is absolutely of the scales in madness. If I were you I'd go to the rodeo first and back it up with the beach party. Then drag your awful feeling head out of bed the next morning for the street markets that line the main street on Saturday morning followed by the street parade of cars, local businesses and generally all things watermelon. The best place to view the street parade is on the balcony of the club hotel. Grab a drink form the bar and chill on the veranda and watch everything go by. Try you hand at melon skiing and all other melon events then settle in for a night of live music on the oval of chinchilla state school. A quick note make sure you bring plenty of water with you it is often extremely hot. There is plenty of food vans that are scattered throughout the event to grab a feed from as well.
