Ex-Inmate/Ex-Officer Tours give you the inside story from ex-inmates and ex-officers on a 60 minute tour through Boggo Road Gaol’s Number 2 Division. Tours are guided by former prisoners and officers, who will share with you their firsthand accounts of what daily life was like inside the walls of one of Australia’s most notorious prisons. (Please note some of the stories you will hear involve strong concepts and mature content – and therefore suitable for those aged 15 and over)

When can we visit the Gaol?

Tours are conducted on first and third Sunday of each month – 10:15am & 11:30am

Meet your Ex-inmate guide in front of the imposing green gatehouse doors of Boggo Road Gaol before entering the historic prison on your 60 minute walking tour.

As you make a gentle walk through the remaining parts of the gaol, you will stop to hear stories and the memoirs of your guides time in prison. What it was like to wake up every morning behind the red brick walls and what happened on a daily basis. You will also learn about the conditions of the gaol and the horrific riots that lead up to the closure in 1989.

Visit the Gatehouse, Yards, and circle. History is everywhere! Your Ex-inmate guide will give you ample time to explore a Cell Block, ask additional questions and take photographs the picturesque surrounds.

After learning about the history – visit the gaol gift shop to take home something to remember your time in gaol. There are books, T-shirts, Gaol Keys, Postcards and Posters available.
