Why not pack up a picnic and head to Lake Burley Griffin for a romantic interlude with your partner, or some relaxing chill-out time with your family. There’s an abundance of scenic picnic spots around the lake, including locations that have free electric BBQ’s and play equipment for the kiddies. You could start your picnic with a wander or bike ride around the paved walking path that allows you to stop off at some of Canberra’s famous landmarks along the way, such as the Portrait Gallery, National Library, High Court, National Museum, National Art Gallery or the Captain Cook fountain to name a few – which in the hotter months, if the breeze is blowing right, you can cop a nice refreshing spray.

A highlight is the National Carillion located on Aspen Island which can be accessed via a footbridge. It’s a popular spot for weddings due to its romantic atmosphere and plenty of grassy space shaded by spectacular age old willows. Why not catch a live recital by renown carillonists, as a backdrop soundtrack while you enjoy the peaceful surrounds.

Stop to say hi to the ducks, water hens and swans that inhabit the lake area. It’s a tranquil location that will have you feeling like you don’t have a care in the world.

Get your head out of your device once in a while, look up and enjoy whats around you! You won't regret it!
