It's Tasmania; there are plenty of gloriously grand mountains to enjoy a homemade sandwich and rest your weary legs. The problem is choosing which one! If you're without a car, a walk up Mt Wellington in the heart of the southern suburbs is a perfect way to spend the day. There are a number of Wellington walks to choose from depending on your energy levels, and you can also catch a sneaky bus for some of the way. However, if you've got yourself some wheels, my personal favourite perching point is Hartz Peak. Situated down Geeveston way, Hartz is a small drive from Hobart but a big leap in the elements. It snows, it shines, there's a whimsical water hole for swimming and a whole bunch of alpine plants clustering together in beautiful, symbiotic relationships. That's romantic, no?
