Travel to the township of Canungra, in the the Gold Coast Hinterland, turn into Lamington National Park, and travel up into the National Park along the winding mountain road. When you reach the top, you will be surprised to see large open paddocks with Alpacas staring lazily at you over a fence. Mountview Alpaca Farm is visited by both local and international tourists from all over the world, and provides a much-needed break for those en-route to stay at O’Reilly’s Guesthouse. The farm is opened to the public every day excluding Tuesday, and during opening hours, visitors can drop in to enjoy a tea or coffee, scones with jam and cream, and take in the stunning views from the balcony. The gift shop stocks a great selection of products, including goods made from local producers as well as imported items from South America. The range includes handmade beanies made from their own alpaca fleece, and balls of wool for those wishing to create their own masterpiece.

For those with small children, a bag of alpaca feed costs only $3, and hand feeding these friendly creatures will definitely lift spirits after a long car trip. The alpacas are always hungry and eager to make new friends, which also provides the opportunity for photos. Overall, Mountview Alpaca Farm is worth the stop, and can easily provide an hour or two of relaxation for the weariest of travelers.
