The Pinnacles is one of the locations of the fascinating coloured sands of Fraser Island. By doing a short walk you can get up close to these fascinating cliff faces (although you’re not allowed to touch them). The coloured sand formations are one of the many beautiful natural wonders of Fraser Island.
The colours show up better in bright daylight so might be more impressive on a bright sunny day. The colouring comes from minerals mixed in with the silica that forms the sand (sometime they are also called mineral sands for this reason).
The Pinnacles are on the Eastern beach so if you’re headed for Eli Creek or the Champagne Pools, you should break your journey and stop and have a look at them. It might just be coloured sand but it is something unique.
