One of the quietest inland lakes on Fraser Island is Basin Lake. It is accessible through walking from the Central Station day use area, and is around 5.6km return. Most of the walk is on fairly firm sand. There’s no way to drive there which is what makes it so quiet! Queensland National Parks recommend that you allow three hours for the walk (there and back). It's a nice walk along a track with relics from the logging that used to happen on the island featured on the track along the way.
The lake itself is small and round, and you could walk around it if you’re still feeling energetic after the walk there. The track to Basin Lake is part of the Fraser Island Great Walks network, so if you’re super keen on a really long walk you could continue on to Lake Mackenzie.
