Coolum Beach is a part of the Sunshine Coast region, located North of Brisbane City. This area is picking up in tourism activity of late, but still holds on to it's less-developed charm and intimate locale.
Coolum is the perfect destination for a day trip with your partner, family and the kids, friends, etc. and has all amenities within walking distance of the main strip. Forgot your sunscreen? No worries, there's chemists around (and they surprisingly DON'T charge twenty times value!)
The restaurants and cafes along the strip don't disappoint, and you'll find something to suit all tastes. The Surf Club is a great venue with awesome views of the ocean, perfect for relaxing with a drink at the end of the day.
Looking for a romantic getaway? There is plenty of overnight accommodation in the area, and some more secluded and private areas of the beach if you walk in either direction of the main esplanade. Check out the rockpools, but take care not to walk in them!
Also be sure to check for lifeguards in the area before entering the water - not all parts of Coolum Beach are monitored, and the rips can get a bit intense!
There are some gorgeously scenic walkways around the beach cliffs, and the drive is quite scenic itself, winding past gorgeous rolling hills and farmland.
Well worth the trip out of the city.
