If you are an early riser, one of the delights of Canberra is spotting the hot air balloons over the city most mornings, usually between 6:30 and 8:30am. The hot air balloons are usually visible over Lake Burley Griffin and generally land in sports fields in south Canberra. A number of companies offer these hot air ballooning rides in Canberra.
In March each year the Canberra Balloon Spectacular hosts remarkable balloons from all over the world. The balloons launch from the grounds in front of Old Parliament House, and a hot breakfast is provided by local clubs. They make an incredible sight every year launching in the early morning and drifting over Canberra’s landmark buildings.
If you have a friend in town, an early morning brunch in Kingston or Manuka should always be preceded by a stroll over the Kings Avenue bridge to observe the balloons of the day in flight.
