For me, reading is not dead - and the Gawler library know that. I used to go there in my lunch breaks just to have 30 minutes of 'down time'. Said to be haunted, it's worth a look if you're passing. You need to know where it is to find it though, as it's hidden perfectly amongst the newly renovated business facades of Gawler. Complete with massive reading rooms (picture old Victorian museums), dimly lit comfy sitting areas and rooms upon rooms of books, this place is a secret haven away from busy Gawler life. The staff are super friendly, very helpful and will assist you most politely. It's not all old fashioned though, there is a computer room and printing facilities, along with the option of reserving books from home via their website.
You should absolutely check it out, it seems this is one the 'old fashioned' remaining libraries in SA. Complete with creaky floors and uneven surfaces, take the kids for the 'children's circle reading' or go alone for some well deserved me time.
