For a month each year, a pocket of the Dandenong Ranges becomes awash with colour from the stunning tulips of the Tesselaar Tulip Farm.
To coincide with their brief blooming season, the farm stages a festival that celebrates all things Tulip! The dates for 2016 have just been released so pop them in your diary now: September 8th to October 4th. They also coincide with part of the school holidays and this a great activity for the kids.
Apart from the half a million tulips on show, you can also see (and sit in!) the world's largest clog, enjoy Dutch cuisine like the famous poffertjes and enjoy various live music acts.
Tesselaar is about an hour’s drive from Melbourne and you can pre-book your tickets.
A small word of warning, depending on the weather the tulips can sometimes be slow to bloom and don't always get the memo about the start date of the festival, so check with the venue before you make the journey to avoid disappointment.
