Boondall Wetlands is just off the Gateway motorway in north Brisbane at the same exit as the Entertainment centre. It is a protected wildlife area run by the council and well known for its bird watching but it is also an excellent opportunity to see snakes! It's pretty safe as they mostly avoid people but if you look carefully you may see one of many pythons living here wrapped up in a tree or elegantly climbing which is quite mesmerising. There is a special kids trail and an information centre so it's a great place for a family to take a walk and get back to nature. It's also great for taking overseas visitors who prefer a more natural environment than one of the zoos in the area. There are plenty of parking spots and the location is open to the public 0830 to 1600 every day except public holidays. Wheelchair tracks are available and there are various picnic areas as well.
