Ellery Creek Big Hole is one of the most popular spot in the West Macdonnells. This waterhole was carved bu over a thousand years of massive floods and the result is impressive. This place a special importance in the aboriginal culture and became a well known meeting spot for them back in the days. There is a 3 kilometers long trail that you can take to see thr rocks surrounding the area, it's called the Dolomite walk.
The water is really nice to swim, and you can enjoy the sandy patches to make a picnic, or simplu sunbath.
The entry to this spot is only through a gravel hole, but it's suitable for all vehicles, you don't have to drive a 4wd and even bigger campervans can get there without any trouble.
