Just outside of Gisborne you’ll find a state park called Lerderderg. This large park is home to a beautiful aray of native birds and animals, and we’ve come across lots of kangaroos, a few echidnas and plenty of small bush land birds. The walks from the east side of the park are lovely and often marked by an small signed entrance and a general hiking path which great for both biking and walking. The vegetation changes through out the park from sandy open bush land into thick gum lined paths.
You can find a few nice spots deeper into the park for a secluded bush picnic, just remember to take in your own food and water and always take out any rubbish you bring in.
It’s a great spot to bring visitors from overseas to see a true Victorian bushland setting and animals.
